Gloucester sent a small contingent to compete at Wallingford HoRR, a prestigious event held on a picturesque 3 mile upstream course in Oxfordshire countryside.
The WIM3 4+ faced some strong opposition in their race. This, however, did not deter them from putting in a strong performance finishing just over 30 seconds behind Oxford Lightweights – an encouraging result given three of the crew have only been rowing just over one year and have mainly competed at regional events so far.
Both the men’s coxed four races were solid and hopefully a sign of good things to come given the limited time spent in the combinations due to some of the squad concentrating on the Scullers Head which took place the prior weekend. The IM1 4+ had a strong row finishing second in a field of six with only Eton, a crew that contained two Henley winners, getting the better of us. In division 2, we competed in the Senior 4+ event. Unfortunately, our opposition failed to turn up at the start meaning we could only race for a time. Despite this minor disappointment, the crew still managed to turn in a good performance overtaking a coxless four from Thames RC and pushing away from a Brookes four.
Above all, a good day was had by all and is definitely an event that Gloucester will attend again in the future.
